June 19th: SSYP's Summer Cruise with Kootenai County Young Professionals

Are you ready to hit the lake?  So are we!
 
The Spokane Society of Young Professionals and the Kootenai County Young Professionals want to start the summer off right with a Coeur d'Alene Lake Cruise!  This is an incredible opportunity to meet, mingle and mix with 400 young professionals from the Spokane and Coeur d'Alene area!

DATE: Thursday, June 19th
 
COST: $25 - TICKETS CAN BE PURCHASED AT THE DOCK

Coeur d'Alene Cellars Barrel Room No. 6FOOD & BEVERAGE: No host on the boat, but show up early and enjoy tasty treats before you board the boat from Coeur d'Alene Cellars' Barrel Room No. 6 

TRANSPORTATION: SSYP will be chartering a bus from downtown Spokane to the Coeur d'Alene Resort.  The bus will load in the BLVD parking lot at 5pm (you can enter the lot from Main or Spokane Falls Blvd or Washington or Bernard). BUS DEPARTS PROMPTLY AT 5:15! Adult beverages are allowed on the bus so come prepared! The bus will leave Coeur d'Alene approximately 30 minutes after the cruise has ended to return to the BLDV parking lot.

IF YOU ARE TAKING THE BUS FROM SPOKANE:
5:00pm - Board bus in the Blvd parking lot in downtown Spokane
5:15pm - Bus departs for Coeur d'Alene
6:00pm - Board the boat (east side of the Coeur d'Alene Resort dock) - THE BAR IS OPEN!
6:30pm - Boat departs
8:30pm - Boat returns to the dock
9:00pm - Bus departs for Spokane

IF YOU DRIVING YOURSELF TO COEUR D'ALENE:
5:00pm - Enjoy food courtesy of The Barrel Room No. 6 and mingling on Tubbs Hill
6:00pm - Board the boat (east side of the Coeur d'Alene Resort dock) - THE BAR IS OPEN!
6:30pm - Boat departs
8:30pm - Boat returns to the dock
9:00pm - After party at Azteca at Riverstone!

Employers face boomer retirements, recruit in California

Last month, representatives from Greater Spokane Incorporated and several Spo­kane-area companies trav­eled to Southern California looking to strike it rich. But unlike the gold rush of the 1800s, they were mining for workers, not precious metals.

In anticipation of the coming wave of baby boomer retirements, companies here say they’re searching here and in other markets such as Los Angeles for employees to fill expected gaps in their work forces. One of the demographics they’re particularly seeking to attract and retain is what Greater Spokane Incorporated (GSI) calls the Emerging Professional group, which includes much-coveted young adults up to 25 years old.

Spokane-area businesses say they want to find and groom young workers to assume greater leadership responsibilities after the boomers retire. One of the obstacles standing in their way, however, are companies in larger metropolitan areas such as Seattle that beckon college graduates away with the lure of higher salaries and big-city life.
